Profile

The BBS Doctoral School of Entrepreneurship and Business operates in the field of social sciences, business and organizational discipline, with a special focus on small and medium-sized enterprises. It offers theoretical, practice-oriented training based on applied sciences, from which, in addition to those interested in academic and higher education careers, professionals from the business sector can also benefit. In addition to more experienced applicants, our doctoral school also welcomes applications from newly completed master's students. The guiding thread of the subject themes and curricula is the approach and requirements system of the applied sciences. A key area in our high-level theoretical training is the foundation of research methodology. The course structure corresponding to the business and management profile of the doctoral school is based on this.

Our graduates have theoretical, methodological and practical knowledge, abilities and skills that enable them to conduct applied research, scientifically analyse business, economic and financial problems and processes, and identify and solve problems in the scientific, real economic, financial and public sectors. Our graduates can be successful as highly qualified and innovative professionals, leaders and entrepreneurs. We have designed our training program and quality assurance so that our students can obtain their doctoral degree within the given time frame..

History

The key players in the Hungarian economy are small and medium-sized enterprises. Due to its corporate-business-oriented profile, education related to small and medium-sized enterprises occupies a significant place in the basic and master's programs of BBS as a university of applied sciences and a leading higher education institution in Hungary. In addition to education and talent management, BBS’s management pays particular attention to encouraging scientific research related to small and medium-sized enterprises. In order to promote the strengthening and the spread of the entrepreneurial culture, the University established the BBS Budapest LAB Entrepreneurship Centre in 2017, which contributes to the development of Hungarian SMEs through knowledge sharing.

Milestones

• 14 December 2018 - The decision of the Hungarian Accreditation Committee in Higher Education approved the establishment of a doctoral school based on the profile of BBS as a university of applied sciences.
• 23 January 2019 - By its decision, the Office of Education registrated the BBS Doctoral School of Entrepreneurship and Business (DSEB).
• September 2019 - Under the leadership of Miklós Losoncz PhD training in Hungarian started, for which 5 students applied in the first year.
• September 2020 - PhD training continues in English. Thus, similarly to the BBS undergraduate and graduate levels, the doctoral school also meets the requirements of internationalization. Three Hungarian students applied for the doctoral program in English, and more than 70 foreign students applied for the Hungarian state scholarship program Stipendium Hungaricum and Christian Young People.
