Start-up Academy in Zalaegerszeg

Developing International Innovation Acceleration and Supporting Environment for potential young Startuppers

“If you have an innovative idea - just give it a shot”, - this is the main message that I got while attending the StartUp Academy 2018/2019 which took place in Zalaegerszeg. Thanks to the informative lectures and interactive workshops, all the participants were able to get an insight into the main aspects of and challenges to developing and promoting the start-up ideas. Particularly interesting was the meeting with the business experts and innovators, who shared their own experience of setting up a start-up business and encouraged us to pursue our ideas. Of course, the issues of fund-raising and the fear of failure are always there, but if you truly believe in your idea, why not to give it a try? After all, as Mark Twain once said: “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do…” - PB

The startup academy is an Erasmus+ project. It was organized on 28.11.2018 (Wednesday) as a trip to Zalaegerszeg. As a member of this academy, I was supposed to come up and introduce my StartUp Business plan that I dream off and exchange it with the other members of Academy, where we have shared different opinions and discussed the advantages and disadvantages of each business plan. Also, there were different interactive programs, debates are surely part of such a projects ex. A startup or an enterprise? An important part of this project was gaining skills in how to promote yourself and how to introduce your startup company. Moreover, there were roundtable discussions with business experts and innovators, exchange of ideas and good practices. Where we could learn how to properly startup business and how to succeed in a particular business. One more advantage of participating in such projects is socizalizing with other people where I could hear many stories , Ideas, opinions.

Also we had a short campus round where we could see how the natural resources could be maximally used, Budapest Business School Campus in Zalaegerszeg is perfectly constructed and sustainable.

To conclude, I am really happy that I was member of this kind of projects where I gained many communication, presentation, organizational skills. – EC

Getting invited to this project sounded like an interesting opportunity in order to meet new people, gain useful information and to discuss things in an international group of students while being surrounded by experts. When we arrived at the university, we were warmly welcomed and got a little bag from BGE with some useful things inside.
Unfortunately the whole project was in Hungarian language but they provided us with headphones and we received direct translation from a translator, which worked out pretty well.
Apart from presentations, there was also a group work taking part, which lead to great discussions and creative brainstorming with other students.
I enjoyed the interactive round table discussion at the end of the project gave us an insight into real life practices of start ups.

In the tour around the campus we learned about many sustainable methods, the university implemented, which was quite impressive to see.

Attending this project showed me once again, that it is not impossible to create an own business if you have the courage and you know how to do it properly. That´s the main thing I´ve learned that day. – AO.

I really liked the concept of introducing young people and students to the ’start-up’ world. As I am developing my own start-up right now, I would have been happy to have such an opportunity before structuring a vague idea into an actual concept and project. Unfortunately, this event came a little bit too late for me, yet, it was still very interesting to get additional information and share experiences with other people. The event was very well organised and structured, and it was very nice that there was even translation for the international guests. In my opinion, it would be great if there would be even more people with start-up experience and more time to exchange ideas and get feedback on a more personal level. All in all, I am glad that I took part in this event and would definitely recommend it to other students. - RF

First of all, let me thank you for all your effort. Start-up in Zalaegerszeg was really interesting for us. They organized everything in details, gave wonderful presentations and guests advised most important things which are important for small businesses in Hungary. - GM

The event was a great experience. It was held by knowleble and enspiering people. There were lectures about how a startup works, how to come up with business ideas and EU projects regarding the matter. In addition to the lectures, there were workshops where students worked together on business ideas and the lecturers answered questions. Lastly, since it was a international event we got to meet people from all over the world! - FR.
