Programme Objective

Our goal is to train financial economics professionals who, armed with micro- and macroeconomic, functional economics and methodological knowledge, along with having mastered the the competitive, up-to-date, relevant and high quality theoretical, methodological and practical course content, will be able to perform independent, creative, analytical and managerial activities in both the corporate and public sectors. After completing the Masters degree, students will acquire analytical skills that will enable them to be able to follow the international scientific literature and thereby pursue independent professional self-education. With a Masters degree, graduates will have sufficient in-depth theoretical knowledge to pursue further economics training toward a doctoral (PhD) degree.

Optional Specializations

Monetary and Public Finance

(FFA Full and part-time) The monetary and public finance specialization can be chosen on the Master of Finance course. Based on the general and methodological knowledge acquired in the first year of the training, the goal of the specialization is for students to know and understand the specifics of state operation at a high level, and to be able to make responsible, professionally informed decisions regarding the state operation as a whole and several sub-areas. The acquired knowledge gives the students modern, competitive knowledge that can be well utilized in both domestic and international environments. The focus of the specialization is on the following main topics: community economics, public finance, Hungary's central budget, financing of public investments, a deeper understanding of the special accounting of the public financial sector and monetary policy.

Corporate Finance

(FFA Full and part-time) The Corporate Finance specialization is an option in the Finance Master’s degree program. Based on the general and methodological knowledge obtained in the first year of the program, the aim of the specialization is to provide students with a high level of knowledge and understanding of the characteristics of corporate operations, and to enable them to make responsible, professionally sound decisions concerning the company, as a whole and its various areas. The skills and knowledge that students obtain will provide them with up-to-date, competitive knowledge that can be used in both domestic and international contexts. The specialization focuses on the following main topics: corporate governance, taxation, financial controlling, risk measurement and management, analysis of financial markets, and decision-making in investment and financing.

During the program students will acquire knowledge and understanding of:

economic and financial concepts, contexts and methods of analysis,
the basic principles and tools of the various areas of the economy,
economic relations and the system of institutions, the principles and processes of their operations,
the principles and methods of managing economic resources and of economic organization and management,
the laws and policies of the international economy,
the financial management characteristics of the different segments of the public sector,
basic communication, management and ethical skills,
the methodology of corporate financial and investment decisions, the methodology of analysis of corporate investments and other investments, the possibilities of corporate financing and tax matters,
the procedures and methods used to manage and direct the financial sector of large, medium-sized and small enterprises, utilities and public bodies, including those which, by reason of their activities or capital structure are exposed to the capital market or are exposed to significant financial risks,
special financial contexts, rules and regularities related to the operation of the wider financial sphere,
the pricing of money and capital market instruments, capital market transactions and related valuation procedures, theory and practice of derivatives relevant to financial risk management.

Programme Content

Basic knowledge of economics and social sciences: mathematical-statistical analysis methods, data mining, quantitative methods in economic decisions, econometrics, financial economics, FinTech, financial law.

General professional knowledge: history of financial theory, financial market analysis, advanced corporate finance, financial controlling 1, financial intermediaries, risk measurement and management.

Compulsory knowledge of the specialized core materials in the specialization of Corporate Finance: applied company valuation, investment and financing decisions, financial controlling 2, corporate taxation, responsible management.

Compulsory knowledge of the specialized core materials in the specialization of Monetary and Public Finance: community economics, public finances, public finance (central budget of Hungary), financing of public investments, accounting of the public finance sector, monetary policy.

Electives: organizational culture, EU finance, valuation and accounting of financial instruments, foreign language literature processing, professional college 1, financial decisions using business simulation software, economic protection, financial abuse and corporate compliance.

Other methodological knowledge: advanced research methodology.

There is a significant demand for students graduating with a Masters degree in Finance in the following areas:

Consulting departments of domestic and international financial service companies and audit firms,
Finance and analysis-planning departments of multinational companies,
Accounting, analysis and audit departments of institutions with national authority and local governments (National Tax & Customs Administration, Supreme Audit Office, Ministry of National Economy, offices of larger local governments), as well as non-governmental public service institutions.
Financial economists with special knowledge of the public sector.
