Finance and Accounting

Programme Objective

The programme provides interdisciplinary knowledge that fulfils labour market requirements. Those in possession of such in-depth knowledge and practical skills are able to identify and solve problems in the economic and business fields. Applying a complex set of knowledge, they are able to understand economic processes and respond creatively to challenges in the business world. Economics and accounting graduates from the Bachelor’s programme can use their professional knowledge to contribute to informing and making decisions in the field of business. Their communication skills and professional foreign language skills ensure effective cooperation with partners and professionals.

Optional Specializations

Taxation

(FFA full-time and correspondence; Hungarian) The specialization in taxation can be chosen in the Bachelor's program in Finance and Accounting. Based on the foundational, general, and methodological knowledge acquired in the first two years of the training, the goal of the specialization is for students to know and understand the specifics of tax systems at a high level, and to be able to make responsible, professionally founded decisions regarding the economy as a whole and several sub-areas. The knowledge that can be acquired provides knowledge that can be well utilized in all areas of the economy and that can be well applied in practice. Students with a deeper interest in taxation can gain broader knowledge in the following topics that are the focus of the specialization: advanced taxation, electronic taxation, public burdens and public duties, international taxation, and tax planning, as well as complex taxation case studies.

Public finances

(FFA correspondence; Hungarian) It can be chosen from the Faculty of Finance and Accounting. The aim of the specialization is to provide students with theoretical and practical knowledge of community economics and public finance. With the main knowledge, they will be able to carry out operational management and planning reporting tasks in various positions at the central and local level of public finance (both in managing and executive bodies) Main topics: Public Sector Administration and Financial Processes, Public Sector Financing, Accounting in the Public Sector, Controlling in the Public Sector, Planning and Budgeting Systems in the Public Sector, Basics of Public Procurement.

Controlling

(FFA full-time and correspondence; Hungarian) The specialization focuses on controlling processes related to managerial decision support. Its aim is to enable students, equipped with professional knowledge, to participate in strategic and operational planning, budgeting, planning and monitoring processes of projects and strategic actions, as well as in the preparation of managerial reports and the development of controlling systems. Main topics include: corporate planning and forecasting, international accounting, investment and project controlling, production and commercial controlling, business intelligence, data management, managerial reporting.

Financial services

(FFA full-time and correspondence; English) The specialisation can be chosen in the Faculty of Finance and Accountancy. The courses have been designed by commercial and investment banks, M&A advisories, trust and wealth management funds, FinTech companies, and with the inclusion of visiting lecturers and practical case studies, project tasks. The aim of the specialisation is the students to be connected real-time to the financial sphere. Finance, business analysis, wealth management and advisory, risk management, and IT fields are opening up to the graduates, international carrier opportunities and fair remunerations as well.

Accounting

(FFA full-time and correspondence; Hungarian) The focus of the specialization is on performing accounting tasks. The aim of the specialization is to enable students, with their professional knowledge, to identify and solve accounting problems that arise in the economic and business sectors. Main topics include: special issues of accounting, international accounting, performance and resource analysis, basics of auditing and control, special issues of analysis and control, digitization in accounting.

Business information analyst

(FFA full-time; Hungarian) It can be chosen from the Faculty of Finance and Accounting. The focus of the specialization is to explore the statistical data sources necessary for the analysis of economic processes, to learn about the connections, to analyse and evaluate business processes. The purpose of the specialization is the development of student competencies: insight, data mining, safe handling of quantitative methods, preparation of management decisions, management of business information databases, modelling of processes. Keyword: "data-driven decisions" Main topics: economic statistics, data mining, management of data collection processes, data interpretation, database management, data visualization, modelling.

Corporate finance

(FFA full-time; Hungarian) This specialization can be chosen in the Faculty of Finance and Accounting. The aim of the specialization is to provide corporate finance knowledge that covers the entire business life cycle, from the founding of companies to their decline. The focus of the specialization is the training of financial professionals working in the corporate sector, using practice-oriented methods. Main areas of knowledge: financial and liquidity planning, corporate financing with venture capital, or bank credit; project financing, factoring, leasing, crowdfunding; management of companies' financial risks; examination of interactions between strategic and financial decisions in the case of a simulated company, complex financial analysis of firms based on case studies.

Graduates can easily find employment in any area of the economy. They become suitable to fill positions that include e.g. the fulfilment of the following tasks:

inform financial, investment, financing and capital layout decisions;
preparation and evaluate loan applications, financial plans and tenders;
compile and analyse reports on business operations;
carry out complex financial and accounting analysis and business planning;
perform controlling tasks;
work as assistant auditors;
establish and operate of independent enterprises.
