About the Programme

The primary aim of this program is to deepen the professional theoretical and methodological knowledge acquired within the framework of the undergraduate degree in economics, as well as to prepare students for teaching economics, teaching subjects and modules related to their area of specialization, and pedagogical and psychological tasks related to teaching. Another integral part of the program is for students to acquire the theoretical and practical pedagogical-psychological, as well as methodological preparation that are indispensable for the Masters degree teaching activity. In accordance with this, the other basic objective of the program is to strengthen expertise in the areas of commerce and marketing and tourism and hospitality.

The Economics Teacher will acquire competencies in the following fields:

  1. In the field of the students’ personality development, validation of individual treatment: to develop economic, problem-solving thinking, to verify the correctness of solutions, to establish the students' literacy in economics during the course of the program, talent management, competition preparation and to train students with special educational needs and multiple disadvantages;
  2. In the field of helping and developing the evolution of student groups and communities: to mould students belonging to a specific group into a community and to convey the socio-psychological characteristics of social groups and economic units, effective conflict management, to shape the commitment of group members towards the community, to acquire a responsible and active role in a democratic society, to accept local, national and universal human values;
  3. In the field of methodological and subject knowledge: in vocational grammar schools, vocational secondary schools, for the teaching of theoretical and theory-intensive practical subjects in the field of economics and its various specializations, in vocational grammar schools, vocational secondary schools, in vocational basic education corresponding to the given specialization for the teaching of theoretical and theory-intensive practical subjects, in adult education to teach subjects corresponding to the given specialization, to lead theory-intensive practices; to prepare for the baccalaureate and professional examinations, to perform examination tasks as a member of the baccalaureate and professional committees;
  4. In the field of pedagogical process planning: to define the learning-teaching strategy, to determine the educational process for the development of the curriculum in accordance with the pedagogical goals and the age-specific characteristics of the students, to select effective methods, organizational forms and tools within the age group corresponding to their education and adult education, to plan the extra-curricular and out-of-school learning of the subject in the context of the age group corresponding to his/her education, and in the context of adult education, professional self-reflection and self-correction with respect to the planning of pedagogical processes;
  5. In the field of learning support, organization and management: to pass on the need for professional training, self-training and the love of the profession;
  6. In the field of pedagogical processes and student assessment: to determine the forms and methods of evaluation corresponding to the different objectives and levels of evaluation, to use the results of evaluation, to choose the means of evaluation or to prepare independent tools according to his/her abilities;
  7. In the field of communication, professional cooperation and career identity: to share the knowledge of the possible opportunities of economic, professional career guidance and professional mobility;
  8. In the field of autonomy and responsibility: to convey the theoretical, theory-intensive, demanding, practical and synergistic effects of the competencies developed in the framework of the subjects belonging to the given specialization and professional group, which also generate development in practical training.


Content of the Programme

During the program, full and part-time students will acquire high-quality professional, pedagogical and psychological theoretical and practical knowledge, as well as professional knowledge, including:

• the acquisition of theoretical and practical pedagogical-psychological as well as professional methodological preparation, which are an essential part of the teaching function,

• professional core subjects corresponding to the Masters degree in the fields of commerce and marketing, and tourism and hospitality,

• two semesters of intensive school teaching practice.

Career opportunities

Graduates of the Economics Teacher program can be employed as teachers in all grammar schools, vocational secondary schools and at all levels of adult education in their field. Assuming the commencement of doctoral studies in the framework of higher education in economics they can also find internships and teaching assistantships within the business training industry, in the fields of commerce-marketing and tourism-hospitality.
