As Hungary's largest business university, educating nearly 18,000 students, we have an enormous responsibility with respect to what kind of knowledge and attitude we impart to the future generation as we send them into the labour market. By focusing on our core business activity- education, this is where we can achieve the greatest impact, and we are committed to contributing to a more sustainable future by directing and leading by example. Moreover, as a university of applied sciences, we are also committed to knowledge-sharing, and in addition to our responsibility toward the citizens of our university, we consider it essential to use our own resources to support the wider community as well. Therefore, in accordance with our strategy, we strive to undertake everything on several levels so that the knowledge accumulated at BBU can be utilised as widely as possible, and to this end we endeavour to co-operate closely with the stakeholders and partner institutions in the region.
In 2016, BBU defined as a fundamental strategic goal that it wishes to operate as a sustainable and responsible university. Today, the implementation of this goal is managed by the Sustainability Council, and its day-to-day operations are supported by the Sustainability Network, which is made up of members of the internal community. In the years that have passed since 2017, we have achieved results in many areas, while simultaneously reviewing our activities over again, setting new goals or fine-tuning them.
Another important step in the life of our university was when we received the status of a university of applied sciences in January 2016. From that day forward, the utilisation of knowledge derived from scientific results became a priority, which is reflected in the integration into our programmes and in the utilisation by academic, corporate, governmental and non-profit stakeholders. Since our priority goal is knowledge-sharing, in the coming years we intend to increase the economic and social impact of our research and the quantity and visibility of our publications on several levels. The enhancement of high-level and international scientific activity takes place to a significant extent in the many centres of excellence established by BBU.
CESIBUS
Sustainability as a research topic has been in focus at our university for years, so it was not without precedent when we decided in 2021 to establish the Centre of Excellence for Sustainability Impacts in Business and Society (CESIBUS). In line with BBU’s mission, CESIBUS works to create and transfer knowledge on the topic of sustainability and responsibility. As part of its activities, it brings together the research work within the university related to the topic, publishes its results, and actively applies for participation in new local and international academic research.
