BBS aims to become one of the leading universities of applied sciences in Central Europe, building and working with communities to create and share relevant knowledge with its students, strategic partners (especially businesses) and key members of society.
In order to achieve the above vision, a number of important developments have taken place in recent years. We recognized that we will only be able to meet our current and future challenges and achieve our goals, if we can increase the efficiency of our organizational operations. By making external and internal regulations more flexible, creating a financing environment better adapted to the market, and increasing fundraising capacity, the model change can provide a suitable basis for the next steps of our development. The new form of operation not only lies closer to the current strongly market-based operation and spirit of our university, but it can also create a more advantageous and dignified situtation which would allow our students, faculty and colleagues to unleash their talent and increase their performance.
With respect to the model change, we expect the following main impacts related to the goals of the University:
- further increase in the competitiveness of education
- increase in the efficiency and quality of student services
- reduction of administrative burdens
- increase in fundraising capacity
- expansion of the dissemination of our intellectual values for the good of the community
- expansion of the economic utilization of our accumulated knowledge and research results
- increased possibility for the recognition of outstanding professional work and extra performance
- increased possibility to involve international educators of excellence
- easier connection to the business sector, expansion of collaborative opportunities
Regarding the strategic direction of programmes, the current strategic goals of the university will prevail in the future, regardless of the change in maintainer. The change in model will not affect the official recognition of university degrees, nor will it affect the system of requirements for the programmes. On the other hand, more flexible operation and expected greater international embeddedness will be able to open more training and knowledge acquisition opportunities for current and future BBS students, thanks to the expected infrastructural developments in a more modern, comfortable environment.
One of the most often mentioned elements of the model change is the transformation of the employment situation of the employees. With a foundation as maintainer, the university will switch to employment status in accordance with the Labour Code (Lc.) instead of the current civil servant status of the employees. During this undoubtedly significant change, a number of guarantees will be built into the system in order to ensure that the rights and benefits of the employees are not compromised, while at the same time, the Labour Code provides a freer negotiating position for the parties. The goal of BBS’ leadership in this area is clear: to provide an attractive employment and income situation for its value-creating employees. The new operating model provides an opportunity to develop new types of employee motivation systems and supports BBS in becoming a competitive employer. Working together with a forward-looking institution operating in a developing, market-confirmed business model to build a modern university, can be a professionally attractive perspective for those willing to take advantage of this opportunity.
BBS has already worked collaboratively with a number of corporate partners, small businesses, professional and social organizations, and in line with its strategic goal, expanding and deepening these partnerships will continue to be an important element of its operations. The changing regulatory environment that comes with the model change can create opportunities for collaboration that are more flexible, closer to the business world, and better suited to the entrepreneurial attitude of the university, which in turn can make it easier for future partners to connect with BBS. The benefits of expanding partnerships, in addition to having a direct impact on our key activities, also support increasing the social impact of the university.
