Sports volunteering

Volunteering is an activity by which we help others for a good cause, while enriching our own knowledge and experiences without compensation. Nowadays, social responsibility is becoming more and more popular among all age groups. At the Budapest University of Economics and Business, we have been offering sports-related voluntary activities to students for many years.

In recent years, voluntary dog walking grew out of a student project, with which we help the residents of the Üröm Animal Shelter from time to time. In addition, our students have volunteered at numerous domestic and international sports events. E.g. University European Games, Hungarian Grand Prix, FINA, European Handball Championship

"The whole event was like a big festival that you can only enjoy. The fact that mostly university-going young people took part in the event contributed a lot to the formation of such a great community. Everyone talked to everyone, got to know each other or partied, regardless of ethnicity. It's great these two weeks were an opportunity to practice the foreign language and get to know other cultures. Last but not least, what made the event truly unforgettable for me was the small Hungarian company we formed! When we weren't working together, we went out to other to Hungarian and non-Hungarian matches, we partied, talked and simply enjoyed being given this volunteer opportunity. Even after my previous volunteering and EUG 2022, I came to the conclusion that a lot of people's personalities are shaped unintentionally when they are in such an open and great environment. In such cases, a completely new world opens up in front of me and it is much easier for me to notice the possibilities in front of me. Since in the future I want to work in the world of sports and continue my studies in this field, such events provide me with a kind of motivational boost and an opportunity for professional experience and insight, not to mention the extraordinary relationship capital. Volunteering program

"Become a sports volunteer" program series, to which we warmly welcome all those who want to gain new experiences through volunteering in their spare time.

The European University Games (EUG) is one of the largest sports events in Europe, and the 3rd largest multisport event in the world in terms of the number of participants. The Hungarian University Sports Association (MEFS) together with the cities of Debrecen and Miskolc, the University of Debrecen and the University of Miskolc will organize the 2024 Debrecen - Miskolc University Games in 17 sports, to which more than 4,500 participants are expected to come from 450 universities in 40 countries. .

The organizers are expecting nearly 1,200 volunteers who will help the event run successfully, since there is no good event without volunteers. The volunteers form a well-functioning, mutually supportive community with a great atmosphere, which improves human relations and builds bridges between generations. In July 2024, they can be enriched with experiences that are rarely offered outside of the wonderful world of sports. In an international environment, they can practice their English or other language skills while working responsibly, and they can be part of the organization of a multisport event.

We want to promote our volunteer program among the university's athletes and fans. Our goal is to involve all players of the university sports life in the event, thereby promoting the emerging sports, while also strengthening the community. In addition to the University European Games, the Budapest University of Economics has undertaken to organize a total of 7 university national championships this academic year, 4 of which will be held in the spring semester.
