The Budapest University of Economics kicked off the 2025/26 academic year with a sold-out opening ceremony at its Markó Street building. Hundreds of students attended the event, where they were the first to hear about the results of the university's transformation and its future directions.
György Andor, rector of BUEB, emphasized that thanks to many years of conscious development, BGE has now entered the upper echelons of higher education. Radically renewed training concepts and transformed educational organization rules are placing university life on a new footing in everyday life. The rector emphasized that complete internal integration has been achieved, the walls of the past have been broken down, and the university has been renewed in a physical sense as well. The departure from the Mátyásföld campus and the modernization of the remaining buildings have resulted in the creation of modern, professional facilities in a short period of time. Following the organizational changes, a new management team has been formed, and this year, amid all these new developments, more students than ever before can begin their studies at BGE.
Veronika Varga-Bajusz, State Secretary of the Ministry of Culture and Innovation, congratulated the rector and the university community, emphasizing that BUEB is one of the most dynamically growing Hungarian universities in terms of popularity, as one in four applicants in the field of economics now begins their studies here. In her speech, she emphasized that Hungarian universities are performing increasingly well in international rankings.
Government Commissioner László György spoke about the role of artificial intelligence. He pointed out that although AI offers enormous potential, it cannot be used for everything and sometimes makes mistakes. He therefore emphasized that students must continue to learn and develop themselves, because nothing can replace real knowledge and creativity.
Bálint Kosztolánczy, president of the BUEB University Student Union, addressed the first-year students, emphasizing that one of the most exciting periods of their lives lies ahead of them, but they should not expect good things to just happen to them. The president of the EHÖK said that they can get as much out of university life as they put into it.
The opening of the academic year not only marked the start of a new semester, but also a new era in the life of BUEB, one that is full of opportunities and shared successes.
