1. About the Programme

The Office for International Relations of Budapest University of Economics and Business (BGE) announces a Call for Applications for one-semester-long Double Degree mobility opportunities available exclusively to students enrolled in the International Economy and Business MA programme.

The Double Degree programme offers students the opportunity to spend one semester at one of BGE’s partner universities abroad as an integral part of their master’s studies. By successfully completing all academic and other requirements applicable at both institutions, participating students may obtain a degree from both the BGE and the respective partner university, subject to the rules and degree requirements of the respective institutions.

For this Call for Applications, students may apply for a Double Degree mobility at one of the following partner institutions:

• Augsburg University of Applied Sciences, Germany
• University of Stirling, United Kingdom

The programme provides participants with the opportunity to study in an international academic environment, broaden their professional and intercultural experience, and gain first-hand insight into a different higher education and business environment.

2. General Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for this programme, applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

• Be a full-degree student at BGE enrolled in International Economy and Business MA program.
• Maintain active student status during the mobility period, in accordance with the applicable institutional regulations.
• Demonstrate a minimum English language proficiency of level B2, evidenced by an accepted language certificate or other documentation recognised as equivalent by the University.
• Show motivation and readiness to represent the University abroad.

Students participating in the Stipendium Hungaricum Programme are not eligible to apply for this mobility opportunity where participation would result in prohibited double financing under the applicable rules.

3. Partner Specific Criteria

Augsburg University of Applied Sciences, Germany

• Applicants must complete all courses prescribed for the first semester of the model curriculum by the start of the mobility period. Accordingly, at the time of application, applicants must be currently enrolled in all courses prescribed for the first semester in the model curriculum. The successful completion of all courses prescribed for the first semester will be verified before the Grant Agreement is issued for the awarded students.

This Double Degree programme covers the second semester of the model curriculum, the above requirement ensures that all preceding courses have been successfully completed.

University of Stirling, United Kingdom

• Have successfully completed at least one semester of studies at our university before the application deadline.
• Applicants must complete all courses prescribed for the first, second and third semesters of the model curriculum by the start of the mobility period. Accordingly, at the time of application, applicants must have either already completed or be currently enrolled in all courses prescribed for these semesters in the model curriculum. The successful completion of all courses prescribed for the first, second and third semesters will be verified before the Grant Agreement is issued for the awarded students.

This Double Degree programme covers the fourth semester of the model curriculum, the above requirement ensures that all preceding courses have been successfully completed.

5. Required Documents

Mandatory documents for all applicants:

• Proof of language proficiency (minimum B2) in English
• Motivation letter 
• Residence Permit – only for international students

Additional documents can be:

• Proof of TDK/OTDK results or other national or international academic competition achievements (1st–3rd place or special award)
• Proof of other outstanding activities (scientific, sports, artistic, voluntary, or community activities)
• Proof of scientific publications or conference presentations
• Proof of university community and professional engagement (e.g. Student Demonstrator or intern at BGE, BEE Mentor, Student Ambassador, Student Union officer, or officer/member of a College for Advanced Studies)
• Proof of participation in the Corporate or Entrepreneurial Mentoring Program
• Proof of additional or higher-level language proficiency
• Letter(s) of recommendation

Please note that all mandatory documents must be uploaded to the application system before the application is submitted. Following the technical evaluation of the applications, applicants may be invited to participate in a deficiency procedure, during which they may remedy identified deficiencies by submitting missing documents or correcting incomplete or incorrect documents. The email specifies the deadline for submitting the required documents. In such cases, applicants have 3 working days from the date of notification to upload the required documents directly to the application system. Documents submitted by email will not be accepted. Please also note that applications for which all mandatory documents have not been uploaded by the deadline will be automatically rejected.

6. Selection Process and Criteria

Augsburg University of Applied Sciences, Germany

The selection procedure consists of four stages: (1) application screening, (2) scoring of the eligible applications, (3) a short interview in a timeslot booked by the applicant, and (4) the establishment of the final ranking. Applicants may receive a maximum of 30 points, based on the following three equally weighted criteria:

• Academic performance (maximum 10 points): previous study results, successfully completed courses, and relevant academic achievements;
• CV and motivation (maximum 10 points): the applicant’s academic and career goals and the extent to which participation in the Double Degree programme supports these goals;
• Short interview (maximum 10 points): motivation, communication skills, academic resilience, and cultural adaptability.

Each criterion is assessed according to the following scale: 9–10 points – Excellent (very strong evidence; highly suitable); 7–8 points – Good (strong evidence; suitable); 5–6 points – Satisfactory (adequate evidence; acceptable); 3–4 points – Weak (limited evidence; concerns); 0–2 points – Very weak (little or no evidence; not suitable). The final ranking is established on the basis of the applicants’ total scores achieved across the three criteria.

Participation in the interview is mandatory for all eligible applicants. Applicants who fail to attend their booked interview timeslot will receive 0 points for the interview component.

University of Stirling, United Kingdom

The evaluation of applications is based on the students’ cumulative adjusted credit index (KKKI) of their last completed semester and their percentile ranking within their own programme cohort. Applicants may receive a maximum of 10 points for their academic performance: students ranked in the top 10% receive 10 points, those ranked in the top 11–20% receive 9 points, those ranked in the top 21–30% receive 8 points, and so on, with the score decreasing by one point for each subsequent 10% band. Any additional points defined in the present Call for Applications are added to this calculated score. 

In the event that two or more applicants receive the same score, further ranking between them is only required if the number of eligible applications exceeds the number of students who can be supported within the available quota or budget. In such cases, the applicants’ exact KKKI values are taken into account. If these are also identical, the individual points awarded for additional activities are considered. If a tie still remains, additional supporting documents may be requested. Such documentation may include, in particular, evidence of additional language proficiency relevant to the host country or the language of instruction, or evidence of relevant academic, professional, international, intercultural or extracurricular achievements not previously taken into account in the evaluation. The relevant Faculty makes the final decision based on the relevance and strength of the submitted supporting documents in relation to the objectives of the mobility programme.

7. Support and Costs

The amount of the scholarship:

• 400,000 HUF/month in case of both destinations.

The financial support awarded under the Pannonia Scholarship Programme contributes to the implementation of the mobility; however, it does not necessarily cover the full cost of the stay abroad.

During the mobility period, students remain entitled to study grants and other support provided by BGE. However, all payment obligations towards BGE (e.g. tuition fees, language allowance, etc.) remain due during the mobility period.

For this reason, applicants are strongly advised to prepare a detailed budget plan in advance, taking into account expected living, travel, and other related expenses.

The grant is awarded as a lump sum; therefore, no itemized financial report is required. The use of the grant is verified through the submission of a Certificate of Attendance, in accordance with the provisions of the Grant Agreement.

If the actual mobility period certified by the host institution is shorter than the period specified in the Grant Agreement, the student is required to repay the corresponding difference.

The amount of the scholarship is paid in a single instalment in HUF following the signing of the Grant Agreement. If the mobility period includes partial months, the grant amount for the respective period is calculated on a pro-rata daily basis.
