Volunteering

BUEB actively promotes a culture of volunteering among its community members through vibrant programs offered every semester. As a socially responsible institution, we value the engagement of our community members in supporting social causes that resonate with them, and we extend our support to facilitate their involvement in such endeavors.

Volunteering yields manifold positive effects. Beyond the act of helping others, it fosters a sense of community, enables the acquisition of new knowledge and skills, mitigates stress, and, undoubtedly, bolsters confidence.

Annually, our university hosts the BUEB Volunteering Week, spanning five days dedicated to visiting various civil organizations and providing support in designated tasks. The overarching goal of this initiative is to empower our students, alumni, and staff to discover causes or organizations they resonate with, fostering continued support beyond BUEB's direct involvement. In addition to this week-long event, we offer diverse volunteer programs throughout the year to ensure that individuals eager to contribute always find initiatives aligned with their values.

Moreover, we organize Volunteer Day annually for our staff, providing them with an opportunity to engage in community work and participate in awareness-raising programs. In 2022, our volunteer efforts contributed nearly 500,000 HUF in moral contributions to society, underlining our commitment to making a positive impact on the community.

As a student at BUEB, you can also earn credits for your volunteer work. You can find more information about this here.

If you know of any organisations you would like to recommend for the next series of events, please contact us at fenntarthatosag@uni-bge.hu.

Volunteer Day - 2024

Check how was our Volunteer Day!

Volunteer Day 2023

One of our university's important strategic goals is to achieve positive social impact, therefore we continuously work on ways to support the voluntary activities of students and staff members. Led by this noble purpose, we also annually organize our Volunteer Day. This year’s plan was the maintenance of the Blind Garden, but unfortunately, due to unfavourable weather conditions, the event had to be cancelled. However, within the framework of independent team-building activities, our colleagues demonstrated the power of unity. Hence, on October 27, the peers of the Department of Accountancy were helping out at the Hungarian Interchurch Aid in inventory tasks, while the colleagues of the Department of Leadership and Human Resource Development at Zugló campus, and the colleagues under the direct supervision of the Vice-Rector for Academic Development at Markó Street campus were working on accessibility issues. Thanks to these efforts, contrasting yellow stripes were placed on the stairs, marking the starting and ending steps, so it facilitates the mobility of the visually impaired people and can be useful even in poor lighting conditions.

Volunteer Week 2023

Between 2nd and 5th of May, 2023, our university hosted Volunteer Week, during which students and university staff members could visit civil organisations and assist their operations. There were opportunities for activities such as dog walking, social housing renovation, preparing sandwiches for donation. Volunteers could also participate in an exciting sensitivity program in the Blind Garden in collaboration with the Hermina Association of Blind and Visually Impaired. During the week, participants volunteered for nearly 400 hours, which, represents a theoretical contribution of close to one million forints. Our university places great emphasis on social responsibility, therefore, in addition to the annual Volunteer Week, we strive to encourage and support students throughout their studies to volunteer at organisations that are important to them, thus building the local community.
