Sustainable Development Goals
Sustainable Development Goals

In 2015, the United Nations adopted a framework that set 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to be achieved by 2030. These Sustainable Development Goals respond to the most pressing challenges facing humanity.

BUEB as a responsible and sustainable university, we recognize our role in achieving these goals, addressing the SDGs in four interrelated ways: through our operations, educational and research activities, and the university community.

Consistent with our university strategy, we significantly contribute ot he achievement of five Sustainable Development Goals directly and indirectly as well.

Quality Educations

Aligned with the objectives, our goal is to provide inclusive, fair, and quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for everyone. Within our portfolio, which includes 11 undergraduate and 10 master's programs, we contribute significantly to increasing the number of young people and adults with appropriate knowledge levels for employment, decent work, and entrepreneurial activities, including technical and professional qualifications.

Ensuring equal access to education and training at all levels for vulnerable groups, including people with disabilities and disadvantaged students is of particular importance to us.

We support the acquisition of knowledge and skills related to sustainable development through education that focuses on sustainable development, sustainable lifestyles, human rights, gender equality, the promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence, a global responsibility mindset, and the contribution of culture to sustainable development.

Gender Equality

Our goal is to achieve gender equality and empower the social roles of every woman and girl, both among our students and employees. In developing our concept of a „Harassment-Free” university, we pay special attention to gender equality and condemn all forms of gender discrimination in accordance with our Ethical Code of Conduct.

We strive to maintain gender diversity among our colleagues and university leadership, ensuring full and effective participation and equal opportunities for decision-making at all levels.

Further measures can be found in the University's Equal Opportunity and Gender Equality Plan.

Decent Work and Economic Growth

We support sustainable, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth, promoting full and productive employment and fair work for every university citizen. Our programs contribute to achieving higher productivity levels in economies through diversification, technological upgrading, and innovation. Additionally, we support productive activities, fair job creation, entrepreneurial spirit, creativity, and innovation. We also encourage the creation and growth of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises, promote sustainable tourism, and develop policies that create jobs, popularize local culture, and products.

Reduced Inequalities

We support the reduction of inequalities within and between countries. Through educational and community activities, we promote social advancement and social, economic, and political inclusion for everyone, regardless of age, gender, disability, race and ethnic origin, origin, religion, or economic and other situations.

Climate Action

In operating our infrastructure, we strengthen our resilience and adaptability to climate change-related risks and natural disasters. Through climate-friendly investments, we reduce our energy consumption and significantly increase our energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy. We prioritize climate change-related topics in education, research, and community activities, promoting sustainable practices, climate awareness, increasing human and institutional capacities for mitigating climate change, improving adaptability, reducing impacts, and early forecasting.
