BGE Call for Applications for the National Higher Education Scholarship for the 2026/2027 academic year
# For students

According to the decision of the Minister responsible for education, pursuant to Section 64(5) of Act CCIV of 2011 on National Higher Education (Nftv.) and in accordance with Government Decree 51/2007 (III.26.) concerning the benefits provided to students participating in higher education and certain reimbursements payable to them, for the 2026/2027 academic year, the

Budapest University of Economics and Business

announces a call for applications for 66 candidates

to be awarded the National Higher Education Scholarship.

The National Higher Education Scholarship is open to full-time undergraduate and master's students at the institution who

a)     have enrolled for at least two semesters of their current or previous studies and have earned at least 55 credits,

b)     have completed at least 90% of the total number of credits of the sample curriculum required for the study programme on a pro-rata basis, and

c)     have achieved a minimum credit index of 4.00 on average over the two consecutive active semesters and have completed academic or other professional work in one of the two semesters (e.g., Conference of Student Research Societies [TDK], academic society, publication, etc.).

To maintain high academic and professional standards, National Higher Education Scholarships are awarded to students of higher education institutions who

‒       have achieved outstanding academic results, and

‒       have excelled in their professional field (e.g., participation in TDK conferences, public activities, and academic society or sports activities, etc.) in the 2025/2026 academic year.

Article 132 of the Requirement System for Students (hereinafter: RSS) sets out in detail the conditions for application and the announcement, while the evaluation details are set out in the call for applications.

The National Higher Education Scholarship is awarded on an individual basis by the Minister responsible for education, taking into account the ranking proposed by the higher education institution. The payment of the National Higher Education Scholarship cannot be postponed beyond the academic year following the application period. The monthly amount of the National Higher Education Scholarship is HUF 40,000 per person per month pursuant to Section 114/D(1)(c) of the Nftv.

The National Higher Education Scholarship is awarded for a maximum of one academic year (10 months). Applications from undergraduate and master’s students shall be handled separately, and separate proposals shall be made for the awarding of scholarships.

A scholarship awarded for the 2026/2027 academic year may only be paid during the 2026/2027 academic year. If the student's status as a student is terminated or suspended, the scholarship will not be paid.

Students are eligible to apply to the institution where they are enrolled at the time of application (the second semester of the 2025/2026 academic year).

If a student applies for the scholarship but is rejected, despite meeting the above conditions and being entitled to the scholarship based on the institutional quota, and if the student failed to receive the scholarship due to an institutional procedural error, and this fact is established through a legal remedy procedure, the Minister responsible for education is entitled to award the National Higher Education Scholarship to that student at the expense of the institution’s student allocation or its own revenues.

A student awarded the National Higher Education Scholarship may not be excluded from receiving academic scholarships.

The application can be submitted via the Modulo application form starting at 12.00 PM on 4 June 2026; the application deadline is 12:00 PM on July 8, 2026, as specified in BGE’s call for applications.

The application must be submitted electronically via Modulo, together with the necessary supporting documents.

The Senate delegates its authority to initiate the National Higher Education Scholarship to the Student Fees and Benefits Committee. The detailed rules governing the exercise of this delegated authority are set out in the University's Requirement System for Students.

Applications evaluated by the faculty are forwarded by the faculty Dean to the head of the Directorate of Student Services (DSS), who prepares the proposal for the institutional consolidated ranking. The faculty evaluation must be made public to ensure students’ right to appeal.

The institutional ranking is approved by the Student Fees and Benefits Committee (SFBC), and through its chairperson, the institution submits it to the Minister responsible for education by August 1, 2026.

Successful applications aggregated at the institutional level, together with a summary proposal in accordance with the Annex to this call for applications, must be sent to the the Ministry by 1 August 2026. Individual applications submitted bypassing the institution cannot be evaluated.

Based on the institution’s recommendation, the Minister responsible for education will notify the Rector of BGE in writing about the students awarded the National Higher Education Scholarship.
