One of the most important tasks at the beginning of the semester is the registration of courses for the semester – more precisely, the registration of the theoretical and practical courses associated with the subjects. Students can complete this task in the Neptun during the course registration period, which takes place at the end of the current semester and at the beginning of the next semester.
1) First-year full-time bachelor’s students
in the first semester, in order to facilitate course registration, we offer pre-designed timetable options for first-year full-time bachelor’s students to choose from. We strongly recommend taking advantage of the sample timetable selection, as it provides several benefits:
- It helps avoid the uncertainties associated with registering for courses for the first time, ensuring that the courses scheduled for the autumn semester are successfully registered;
- For students enrolled in Hungarian-language programmes, it is possible to indicate a preference for taking certain courses in English, which we will take into account when making recommendations;
- By choosing from the offered timetable options, you are guaranteed a conflict-free timetable.
The sample timetable selection is available in the BGE Freshman Navigator (Gólya Navigátor) between 3 and 12 August 2026. Make sure to take advantage of this opportunity!

If student did not select
Students who did not select a timetable during the sample timetable selection still have the opportunity to register for their first-semester courses individually during the subsequent phases of the course registration period in the Neptun system, via the Subjects / Course Registration menu. If a student has selected a sample timetable but would like to make minor adjustments, this is also possible later in the course registration period.
2) First-year full-time master’s and all FIRST-YEAR part-time students
Course registration for first-year full-time master’s students and all part-time students is carried out individually in the Neptun before the start of the semester. This option is available under the Subjects / Course Registration menu, organised by semester.
Key considerations for individual course registration in Neptun
1) The recommendations of the model curriculum
When designing the model curriculum, a clear academic structure has been followed, and adhering to it is strongly recommended. While the credit system provides high flexibility – and this has been maintained by minimising pre-requisites – certain subjects build directly on others. In such cases, pre-requisites have been defined, meaning that a course cannot be taken until its preceding course has been successfully completed.
For first-year students, we strongly recommend registering only for the subjects indicated in the model curriculum. To supplement their studies, students may consider enrolling in credit-bearing physical education (in full-time programmes) or elective foreign language courses, but only to a limited extent.
2) The number of registered courses
Students should register only for as many courses as they can realistically complete. If a course is not successfully completed, a course re-registration fee must be paid when registering for it again. At the same time, it is recommended to complete approximately 30 credits per semester.
Completing significantly fewer credits may have several negative consequences:
- deterioration of the credit index, which may reduce scholarship eligibility,
- possible reclassification into a self-financed programme,
- in extreme cases, termination of the student status at the end of the 5th semester if at least 75 credits have not been completed by that time (this is referred to as the filter level)
3) Scheduling of registered courses
Course registration allows students to create a timetable that fits their own schedule. In the Course Registration menu, available courses and their corresponding timeslots can be listed by selecting the current semester. By selecting a suitable timeslot, students may register for a course. After confirming the registration, the selected course is added to the timetable planner.
IMPORTANT! Individual course registration is only possible if all active, outstanding fees recorded in the Neptun have been paid. These include the tuition fee for the first semester, and the foreign language training contribution fee for the first semester. If payment has not been completed, the Neptun will not allow course registration.
ATTENTION! A prerequisite for starting individual course registration is that the student has activated their status for the given semester. For first-year students, this is completed upon enrolment for the autumn semester. However, this step is required at the beginning of every subsequent semester.
