PRME Champion
As a socially responsible institution, BBU is committed to sustainable operations, fostering social mobility, providing equal opportunities for students, and supporting an active community life and healthy lifestyles. The university became a member of the Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) network in 2017. PRME, established in 2007 and supported by the United Nations, serves as a platform to advance sustainability, with the objective of deepening business students' understanding of sustainability and equipping them with the skills needed for future challenges.
In the current year, BBU distinguished itself as the sole higher education institution in Hungary chosen as a PRME Champion by the UN PRME Secretariat, joining 47 other global business universities. PRME Champions, united in their commitment to sustainability, strive to be leaders in the evolution of management education in alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Sustainability Platform of Hungarian Universities
Under a framework agreement among fourteen Hungarian universities, including Budapest Business University (BBU), the Sustainability Platform of Hungarian Universities was established in Pécs in 2023.
The association aims to exchange best practices in sustainability, organize regular collaborative initiatives, and foster closer cooperation to achieve sustainability goals. Platform members will coordinate annual joint events and inter-university challenges focused on sustainability. They will also provide mutual support through their international network, creating opportunities for participation in global professional forums and events.
Association of Environmental Service Providers and Manufacturers - Net Zero Working Group
The inaugural meeting of the Net Zero Working Group took place on February 28, 2023. At this meeting, Attila Schillinger, the initiator of the renewal and a member of the Sustainability Council at BBU, was elected as the leader of the working group.
The establishment of the Net Zero Working Group is driven by the goal of achieving Net Zero emissions, with a commitment to approaching zero greenhouse gas emissions as rapidly as possible. The Paris Agreement has set targets, including a 45% global reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and achieving net zero emissions by 2050, to avert irreversible adverse effects on health, livelihoods, economic development, societal security, and vital ecosystems.
