Introduction
I am a Canadian-Hungarian entrepreneur who, in addition to having lived and worked in both of my home countries, also lived in Greece for an extended period. During my career, I have accumulated thirty-five years of business management experience in marketing, hospitality, tourism and higher education. My own businesses included a restaurant and lakeside country inn in Canada, a fine dining restaurant in the Castle district of Budapest, and a restaurant/wine bar/delicatessen on the island of Crete. In addition, I initiated a Crete-based tourism marketing company that published a Gastronomic Guide for the island of Crete for 10 years and an online holiday villa rental company. My marketing background is quite diverse as it covers both business and higher education. I have been Client Services Director at several international advertising agencies such as Bates Saatchi, Lintas and Young & Rubicam, as well as the Director of Marketing and External Relations at CEU Business School. Throughout my business career, I have tried to stay present in the field of higher eductation in some way, either as an Instructor or as a Marketing professional for the institution. I have taught in the Masters program at a private tourism university in Crete (Minoan International College) as well as in Canada at one of the largest Community Colleges- Algonquin, in the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality. I also served in the capacity of PR Director for the Hospitality Center. My volunteer and community work includes the Nádasdy Foundation (a Canadian-Hungarian Foundation for the Arts & Environment) where I was a board of trustees member for ten years. For five years I was the Vice President of Communications on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Hungary, and I assisted the Budapest Festival Orchestra in development and fundraising for several years. I strive to impart my trilingual, multicultural knowledge and broad professional background to students, as I believe that experience and the practical application of theory are key aspects and outstanding values in a university of applied sciences – and most especially in the hospitality and tourism industry.
