In early 2023, BBU launched a research project together with three partner universities with the purpose of tackling the growing problems of food allergies and intolerances. The collaboration encompasses the assessment of the differences between the legal framework of the European Union and the legislation in each country, good practices in the field of allergen management in enterprises in the HoReCa sector, and the development of a short-cycle training course for our students and external partners which can help them to manage the allergen management processes of commercial and hospitality enterprises. On 26 and 27 October, our experts participated in the workshop and international partner meeting organised by our project partner, the Universidad Portucalense in Porto, Portugal. During the workshop, the experts of the project, joined by representatives of the HoReCa sector, discussed the most important experiences and future actions in this field. At the partner meeting, we discussed the results of the project so far, the actions to be taken in the following period as well as the main aspects of tracking, quality control, and dissemination and also set the dates of the next online and personal project meetings.
After working together for almost a year, it can be stated that the collaboration of the four partners is fruitful, smooth, and positive and each party benefits from the results of the activities in their own fields. In addition, this joint work provides a perfect basis for potential future cooperation.
