Introduction
The choice of my profession originates in my family background as most of my relatives could be found in primary , secondary and higher education. Therefore it was not by chance that after graduating with a degree in foreign language I started my career in this field. From the beginning I was preparing for a career in education.
In 1991 I started my career in the Hungarian higher education as an English teacher at the Division of Foreign Languages and Communication, Faculty of Health Sciences, Semmelweis University, where I taught English for Health Sciences. During that era our task was not only to teach the language of health sciences in the given foreign language but to have the students understood how important the command of a foreign language is, and especially that of English, to be able to gain an up-to-date knowledge on the latest trends, development, inventions, and innovations of the respective profession. That was the time when here in Hungary we could eventually have a broader access to the latest global professional views, and when life-long learning became a common value;
After a lapse of time of nine years I wanted to face greater professional challenges, to pursue a career at an institution in higher education where professional English had a key role. At that time Budapest Business School and especially our faculty – concerning its original profile – was a remakable representative as such. It was renowned for its professional foreign language teaching of superior quality. Thus I went on pursuing my higher education career at the Faculty of International Management and Business Studies, Budapest Business School, where I taught and teach among others British, American and Hungarian Civilisation, Intercultural Studies, Introduction to Business in Foreign Language, Foreign Language for International Business, Foreign Language for Commerce and Marketing, International Economic Language, Communication Skills Development in English, Foreign Language for Communication and Media, Foreign Language for International Relations , and Presentation Skills Development;
Since in the job desciption my status is named as a senior language teacher, accordingly my main scope of activities are related to teaching and tution. I have always been interested in this professions’s educational and pedagogical aspects; namely the practical approach to the profession and the implementation of ’craftsmanship’. Therefore I regularly attend conferences, trainings and take part in workshops to update my knowledge on the latest trends of pedagogy of foreign language teaching, applied linguistics and the methodology of professional language teaching in English. Afterwards I usually try to apply some of the guidelines in my everyday work.
Apart from teaching professional English I consult my international students and my Hungarian ’catch-up’ students on-demand, as well as the ones who prepare for the state language exam – I give them assistance.
