Introduction

Professor Sandor-Kriszt took a degree in teaching accounting and statistics. This determined the rest of her life: she has been researching economic questions while spending just as much time and energy on teaching.
She defended her doctoral degree in 1984, earned a Ph.D. from the University of Miskolc in 2014, and did her habilitation at the University of Western Hungary in 2014. She has been teaching at the forerunners of Budapest University of Economics and Business since 1985, with stints as department chair, director of distant education, and also rector from 2007 to 2016.
She has a sophisticated approach to methodological issues, as she thinks methods are not ends but means.
Her experience is far and wide in the world of higher education, within Hungary’s borders and beyond.
She led several Hungarian and international projects about the transformation of higher education and modernizing its methodology. She taught statistics in German as a mentor of the Fern Universität in Hagen. She is a regular attendant of domestic and international conferences.

Research areas

  • • measuring the performance of higher education, the problems of international comparisons. As globalisation and technology continue to re-shape the needs of labour markets worldwide, the demand for individuals with a broader knowledge base and more specialised skills continues to rise. Students need to be equipped with specialised global skills such as „statistical skills” – to read and interpret data and information.
  • The place and role of statistics education in business training. How have demands from statistics education changed? The interplay of quantitative and qualitative methods, how it can serve the transmission of up-to-date skills. What connections can be found between areas of quantitative methodological skills, as well as between quantitative methodological skills and their applications in economic statistics? How statistics prepares for research and various economic analysis, for applications of economic statistics. Methodological questions of teaching statistics
  • • analysis of the activity of small and medium enterprises. Small and medium size enterprises ensure the stage for decisions, for this reason their exact definition is indispensable. A short overview of terminology and simultaneously with-it international comparison according to size, geographical location and breakdown of real operations is necessary as well. The Hungarian promotion strategies of small and medium size enterprises should harmonise with the EU program of small and medium size enterprises.
