On February 16th the fourth online Double Degree Event was held for International Business Economics students at the Faculty of International Management and Business. Double degrees, or as I like to call them “the best deal in education today,” allow you to study for your degree, or I should say degrees, in two different countries at the same time. The double degree gives the student two degrees for the price of one, and every International Business Economics student will tell you that is a bargain worth having!
Double degrees are worth the endeavour, true they do demand a little more commitment and self-discipline and require excellent time management skills as you adapt to a different culture, teaching styles and overcome language barriers. Double degrees are a real advantage to those who want to pursue a degree where international experience is key. On the International Business economics programme, we are able to offer five double degree programmes with five places at each partner university, in Belgium, Germany and even in Taiwan for the very adventurous with.
Improved employment prospects
The double degree gives our students a competitive head start in the employment market by adding value to their CVs and opening up new job markets. The double degree helps students to develop independence, maturity, self-discipline and a can-do attitude, attributes valued across the jobs market. As job markets get tougher the double degree has the ability to make our students standout from the mundane.
A growing number of double degree students have even found jobs in their field, near to their partner universities or countries. Those students, who do not go into the jobs market immediately often find places on our MSc programme, and of course there are double MSc programmes with the University of Stirling in the UK and Augsburg Technical and Applied Sciences University in Germany.
Network opportunities
Studying at two universities in two countries doubles the connections double degree students can make. Fellow students, professors and lecturers from around the world are not only useful while studying, but also in the world of work as a network for furthering careers.
International experience
The double degree provides experience that goes beyond an international exchange experience. It demonstrates the student’s ability to function and work in a different culture, while remaining committed to their studies.
Language skills
Finally, the double degree allows students to improve their language skills. All courses on the double degree are taught in English apart from foreign language courses. Language skills again make a CV standout.
Costs and Funding
It would be a reasonable assumption to presume that a double degree is incredibly expensive, however, the simple truth is that it is not. All tuition fees are paid in Budapest, there is no additional tuition fee beyond the student’s normal fee. Funding for the double degree can also be obtained through the Pannonia Project.
Two degrees for the price of one, improved job opportunities, international experience beyond a simple exchange programme, two alumni networks, and enhanced language skills. I stand by my statement; this is the best deal in Education.
