Dr Olga Petkevics has been teaching at the predecessor institutions of BUEB since 1987. She began her academic career as a teacher of Russian and later obtained a teaching qualification in German. Throughout her career, she has specialised in teaching Russian and German for Specific Purposes, including Business, Economics, Finance and Accounting, Tourism and Hospitality, and Commerce and Marketing. She has also taught Business Communication, Destination Studies, Languages for Business and Social Sciences, and International Negotiation Skills.

She is an accredited language examiner at the CFLLE and serves as the Coordinator for German for Specific Purposes. With more than twenty-five years of experience in language assessment, she has worked as an examiner in the TELC, Origó, ECL and BGE examination systems. She currently examines candidates in German and Russian, contributes to the development of examination materials in both languages, and supports the professional coordination and development of specialist language examinations.

Her Belarusian linguistic and cultural background is also reflected in her professional activities. She has taught Belarusian language and civilisation courses and has participated in several Belarusian–Hungarian literary translation and cultural summer schools.

Her research focuses on applied linguistics, particularly contrastive linguistics, the methodology of teaching languages for specific purposes, and abbreviation studies. She obtained her PhD from the Doctoral School of Linguistics at Eötvös Loránd University, where her dissertation examined the functional, semantic and stylistic characteristics of the lexis of abbreviations in contemporary Russian.
