Internationalization at BUEB
Internationalization at BUEB

At the Budapest University of Economics and Business, internationalization is a natural part of our everyday academic work. Through our programmes, partnerships, and student community, we are continuously building connections that extend beyond Hungary and contribute to a wider international academic network.

Who we are as a partner?

BUEB is a practice-oriented institution focusing on business, management, and applied sciences, with a student body of almost 20,000 students.

The university operates through four faculties, each contributing to a diverse and professionally oriented academic portfolio:

  • Faculty of Marketing and Business Communication
  • Faculty of Management
  • Faculty of International Business
  • Faculty of Finance and Accountancy

Our approach combines solid theoretical foundations with practical relevance, supported by international perspectives across our programmes.

We aim to work with partners who value:

  • reliable and transparent cooperation
  • academically sound, practice-oriented education
  • long-term, mutually beneficial relationships

International student community

Our international student population has been steadily growing in recent years, with students arriving from a wide range of countries.

This diversity contributes to a more dynamic learning environment and supports the development of intercultural skills, which are essential in business education today. To meet these needs, we continue to expand our portfolio of English-taught programmes.

Alexia Ardila - 2nd Year

"What were the main factors in choosing Europe over the USA (tuition, visa, safety, culture, long-term opportunities)? Mostly because of the education level, which is really good, european programmes are well-regarded in my country and it open much more possibilities. Other important factor was the possibility to get the “Stipendium Hungaricum” scholarship which I am working to get some day.

I would emphasize the high level of studies that the university offers, international experience, an opportunity to practice and enhace your english skills and also the student life that university provides. "

Partnerships and mobility

International cooperation plays an important role in our academic activities. We maintain partnerships with higher education institutions across different regions, supporting student and staff mobility as well as academic exchange.

Our cooperation takes several complementary forms

1. We participate in the Erasmus+ programme as a host institution, welcoming incoming exchange students from our partner universities across Europe. These students can spend a study period at BUEB, typically for one semester, gaining academic credits in an international learning environment.

2. In addition to semester-based mobility programmes, we offer short-term, intensive formats such as our Intensive Week. These programmes, organised twice each semester, bring together students and lecturers from our partner universities for one-week courses, enabling participants to earn credits while experiencing an international classroom environment.

We organise these weeks together with partner institutions, and the courses are often co-developed to reflect shared academic interests and expertise.

We welcome new partnerships that align well with our academic profile and professional focus, particularly in the context of developing and delivering intensive programmes together.

3. We also welcome freemover students, who join our programmes independently of institutional exchange agreements, further contributing to the diversity and openness of our academic community.

These collaborations provide opportunities to:

  • share knowledge and good practices
  • develop joint initiatives
  • offer international experience to both students and staff

We are open to developing new partnerships with institutions whose academic and professional priorities align with ours.

Connection to the business sector

Our programmes are closely linked to the needs of the business sector. Through cooperation with industry partners, we integrate practical elements into teaching and provide students with insights into real business environments. This ensures that our international activities are not only academic in nature, but also professionally relevant.

International recognition

Our programmes are supported by international accreditations and institutional memberships, which help align our education with widely recognised standards.

These frameworks support transparency, comparability, and quality assurance in an international context.

Why work with BUEB?

We see international cooperation as a long-term commitment rather than a formal requirement.

Partners typically choose to work with us because of our:

  • consistent academic standards
  • practice-oriented approach
  • flexible and responsive cooperation
  • established mobility formats (Erasmus+, intensive programmes, double degrees)
  • location in Budapest, one of Central Europe’s key economic and cultural centres
