Stipendium Hungaricum is Hungary’s most prestigious higher education scholarship programme, launched by the Hungarian Government to support talented international students. It offers fully funded opportunities to study at top Hungarian universities. In general, students can apply for all study levels - bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programmes. Some fields are available as full degree options. However, the exact types of programmes available to applicants from each country depend on the bilateral agreement between Hungary and the Ministry of Education (or relevant authority) of the applicant’s home country.

Who can apply?
As this is a highly competitive scholarship programme, we aim to ensure that the opportunity is awarded to the most deserving applicants. Therefore, all submitted documents are carefully reviewed, and only complete applications that meet all formal and academic requirements will be considered in the subsequent stages of the admission process.
The programme is open to applicants from more than 90 partner countries around the world. You must:
- Be at least 18 years old by 31 August of the year of application
- Not hold Hungarian citizenship (dual citizens are not eligible)
- Be nominated by your country’s designated Sending Partner (usually a ministry or national agency)

General Admission Requirements and Evaluation
During the application process, the Admission Team will take into account several factors, including the applicant’s age, GPA, study gaps, and relevant experiences such as work, internships, volunteering, or extracurricular activities.As a general guideline, applicants to Bachelor’s programmes are expected to have a minimum GPA equivalent to 60%, while applicants to Master’s programmes are expected to have a minimum GPA equivalent to 65%.
Applicants who completed their secondary education in an A-Level/AS-Level system are required to have either four AS Levels or two A-Levels.
Applicants holding a GED (General Educational Development) credential can only be considered if they also provide an official certificate confirming the equivalence of the GED to a secondary school leaving qualification.
Particular attention is given to grades in key subjects, especially Mathematics and English, as strong results in these areas represent a competitive advantage. A solid background in Mathematics is particularly important for applicants to the Finance and Accounting and Business Administration and Management programmes. Applicants to these programmes are strongly encouraged to have studied Mathematics throughout their secondary education and are expected to have completed at least two years of Mathematics during their secondary education.
The Admission Team may also consider the applicant’s overall academic profile, including performance in business-related subjects and other relevant areas of study, when evaluating the application.
Please note that vocational certificates do not meet the entry requirements for our Bachelor’s programmes and therefore cannot be accepted as qualifying admission documents.
For admission to our Master’s programmes, a relevant prior qualification (Bachelor’s degree) is required. The university will review applicants’ transcripts in detail, assessing completed subjects and grades from each semester. Only candidates who have successfully completed the necessary prerequisite subjects (e.g., economics, business, tourism, or marketing, depending on the chosen programme) during their Bachelor’s studies will be eligible for admission. For bachelor’s programmes, the general age limit for applicants is 28 years, while for master’s programmes it is 35 years at the time of application. Nevertheless, applications are assessed on an individual basis, and the Admission Team may consider justified study gaps, professional experience, or other relevant circumstances when evaluating applicants who exceed the general age limits.
- In addition, the Admission Team will evaluate the applicant’s overall academic performance to ensure suitability for the programme.
