To address the issues highlighted in surveys and during this week’s rector’s forums, potential directions for solutions have been identified. Based on the agreement reached at Thursday’s meeting between the leadership of the Budapest University of Economics and Business (BUEB) and the University Student's Union (SU), a working group has been established to elaborate concrete details of these solutions and to incorporate them into the university’s regulations.
Significant educational development processes are taking place and have taken place at BUEB. These have been overshadowed by the fact that at the beginning of this academic year, the university administration faced such a volume of subject registration, timetable and classroom allocation cases that it was unable to process them within the expected turnaround times. This also led, in some cases, to examination schedules not being properly published.
The student complaints generated by the above, as well as subsequent related issues, were also reported and assessed by SU. Altogether, during approximately ten hours of student forums, students and university leaders expressed their questions, opinions and positions related to the above. In parallel, forums were also held for academic and administrative staff in order to gain a deeper understanding of the problems.
The university leadership had already started developing remedial measures prior to the forums, with SU contributing its own proposals to the process.
As a result, on Thursday, based on the agreement between BUEB’s leadership and SU, a working group was established that meets weekly and operates with the active participation of the student representatives. The group will remain in operation as long as the Student Representation deems it necessary.
Following the agreement on goals and general directions for solutions, and given the complexity and scale of the issues involved, detailed negotiations will begin on Monday morning, about which continuous updates will be provided.
