From the Airport to the City

Budapest Airport is located approximately 16 km from the city centre. Depending on traffic, the journey usually takes 30–50 minutes. There are several ways to reach your accommodation, ranging from budget-friendly public transport to more comfortable but more expensive taxi services.

Option 1: Airport Shuttle Bus 100E

✅ The 100E airport shuttle provides a direct connection between Budapest Airport and the city centre.

✅ The bus stops at:

  • Kálvin tér
  • Astoria (only from the city centre towards the airport)
  • Deák Ferenc tér

These are central locations with metro, tram, and bus connections to many parts of Budapest.

✅ Tickets can be purchased from the ticket machines at the airport outside of 2A and 2B terminal for 2500 HUF (~7 EUR)

✅ You can use the 100E both when arriving in Budapest and when travelling back to the airport later.

Good to know: The 100E requires a special airport shuttle ticket. Regular public transport tickets are not valid.

Best for: Students travelling with light or moderate luggage and staying near the city centre.

More information: click here

Option 2: Bus 200E + Metro

✅ Bus 200E connects Budapest Airport with Kőbánya-Kispest, the southern terminus of Metro Line M3.

✅ From there, you can continue your journey by metro to the city centre and many other parts of Budapest.

✅ Regular BKK tickets and passes are valid on the 200E. The special 100E airport shuttle ticket is not required.

Best for: Students looking for the lowest-cost option and travelling with lighter luggage.

Option 3: Taxi

✅ Official airport taxis are available directly outside the terminal.

✅ The journey is usually faster and more comfortable if you are carrying several large suitcases.

✅ Simply provide the driver with the address of your accommodation.

Good to know:

✅ A taxi ride from Budapest Airport to the city centre usually costs around HUF 11,000–13,000 (€28–33), depending on traffic. If your destination is outside the city centre, the fare may be higher.

✅ You can book your ride at the Főtaxi booth outside the terminal.

✅ Both options are safe and commonly used by travellers.

✅ Contracted airport taxi providers operate with officially regulated fares. Other taxi companies may use different pricing, so it is worth checking the fare conditions in advance.

Best for: Students arriving late at night, staying outside the city centre, or travelling with a lot of luggage.

More information

Pro Tip 1: Before leaving the airport, make sure you have your accommodation address and a contact number saved somewhere you can access even without internet access.

Pro Tip 2: Make sure to show your destination to your taxi driver before the ride starts.
