How to Apply to Budapest University of Economics and Business as an International Student

Applying to a university abroad can feel complex at first, especially if the admission system is different from what you are used to. At Budapest University of Economics and Business (BUEB), the international admission process is designed to be transparent, structured and easy to follow, while allowing the university to evaluate applicants in a holistic way.

This article provides a clear overview of how the international application process works, what stages you can expect after submitting your application, and how long each step typically takes.

How Is the International Admission Process Different?

International applicants to BUEB do not apply through the Hungarian central, point-based admission system. Instead, applications are evaluated directly by the university through an institution-based admission process.

This approach allows the Admission Committee to consider not only academic results, but also motivation, English language skills and overall academic readiness.

Overview of the Application Process

While a detailed, step-by-step description of the application procedure is available on the university website, the international admission process generally consists of the following stages:

  • Online application submission via the official platform
  • Review of submitted documents and eligibility check
  • Online admission interview
  • Conditional admission decision
  • Final enrolment

A comprehensive guide explaining each step in detail can be found here: https://uni-bge.hu/en/how-to-apply

How Long Does the Admission Process Take?

The length of the admission process may vary depending on individual circumstances and the completeness of the application. In general, applicants can expect the following timeline:

  • Document review: approximately 1–2 weeks after all required documents and payments have been received
  • Online interview invitation: right after successful document evaluation
  • Admission decision: usually within 1–2 weeks following the interview

Delays may occur if documents are missing, unclear or if payment confirmation is delayed due to bank- or country-specific regulations. For this reason, applicants are strongly advised to apply as early as possible.

What Does a Conditional Admission Mean?

Applicants who successfully complete the evaluation process and the online interview receive a conditional admission offer.

This means that the applicant is accepted to the selected programme, provided that all formal requirements are fulfilled before enrolment.

The Role of the Online Admission Interview

The online interview is a key part of the international admission process. Its purpose is to assess the applicant beyond written documents and to ensure a good academic match.

During the interview, the Admission Committee typically evaluates:

  • English language proficiency
  • motivation for the chosen programme
  • knowledge about Hungary
  • academic and professional background
  • readiness for studying in an international academic environment

The interview is conducted online and does not require travel to Hungary.

What Should You Prepare Before Applying?

Before submitting your application, applicants are encouraged to:

  • carefully review programme-specific admission requirements
  • prepare all required documents in advance
  • familiarise themselves with the admission timeline and deadlines
  • read the official application guide thoroughly

Ready to Start Your Application?

Once you feel prepared, you can submit your application through the official BUEB online application platform.
