Introduction
My name is Krisztián Adorján, and I am a master lecturer at the Department of Tourism and Hospitality at the Budapest University of Economics and Business. I was born in Miskolc and completed my studies in hospitality at the Berzeviczy Gergely Vocational School of Commerce and Hospitality in 1993, then began my career as a waiter doing seasonal work at Lake Balaton. Later, I gained significant hospitality sales experience at Fausto's Ristorante fine dining restaurant in Budapest and Miskolc. These years not only gave me a good professional foundation, but also reinforced my commitment to hospitality. From 1997, I spent a decade working as a Commis de Rang and then Chef de Rang on ocean liners and luxury yachts in an international environment, where I encountered a multicultural clientele and high service expectations. I obtained my higher education degree at the Heller Farkas College of Economics and Tourism Services as an economist specializing in tourism and hospitality. During and after my studies, I worked at leading hotels and restaurants in Budapest, including the Four Seasons Hotel Gresham Palace, Hilton Budapest, Boscolo Hotel-New York Palace, and the Danubius Hotels Group. I also had the opportunity to work at iconic restaurants such as Gundel Restaurant, Kárpátia Restaurant, and Gerbeaud Café. During my time in the hospitality industry, I consciously sought to gain the broadest and deepest professional experience possible in my field, from hotels and restaurants on Lake Balaton to events and haute cuisine. I chose my teaching career out of inner calling. I began my secondary school teaching career as a waiter instructor in vocational hospitality training, then taught hospitality, tourism, hotel management, and economics at a vocational high school and technical college, and regularly participated in the work of examination boards for professional and high school graduation exams. In 2015, I obtained a master's degree in economics with a specialization in tourism and hospitality from the Budapest Business School. My teaching philosophy is based on passing on practical knowledge built on domestic and international experience, authentic professional dedication, and service competencies to future generations in an exciting and direct way. Since 2024, I have been a PhD student at the Doctoral School of Economics and Regional Sciences at the Hungarian University of Agricultural and Life Sciences. My research focuses on labor market adaptation in the age of artificial intelligence. I examine the transformation of competency requirements and skill structures, with a particular focus on the adaptability of female managers in city hotels. I am looking for answers to how artificial intelligence can contribute to strengthening the professional flexibility, decision-making efficiency, and strategic thinking of female managers in the hotel industry. Throughout my professional career, I have traveled a path that spans from the practical world of hospitality to academic research. My goal is to pass on the domestic and international experience I have gained as an asset and to contribute to the conscious, innovative, and people-centered shaping of the future of hospitality and tourism.
