The Institute of Economics consists of two departments: the Department of Economics and Business Studies operating in the Faculty of Commerce, Hospitality and Tourism, and the Department of Business Economics operating in the Faculty of Finance and Accountancy. The two Faculty organisational units carry out their educational activities independently, but at the same time they also have traditions of co-operation: the departments (or their legal predecessors) had also previously developed a joint curriculum.
One of the important roles of the Institute of Economics is to provide an organised framework for this co-operation between the two departments. In addition, its task is to co-ordinate and support the research activities carried out by the staff of the departments, to ensure that research results are presented more visibly than before (including through joint events and publications), and to consciously expand domestic and international professional relations in line with the strategic goals of BBS.
